UPDATE ON LOBBY OF LABOUR PARTY CONFERENCE

Read more for an update on the lobby, including how to support, a list of supporting organisations, transport, the model resolution for Labour Party conference, the meeting after the lobby, background and more…

2.30pm, Sunday 30 September – meet at the central entrance to the convention complex, Peter Street, Manchester, M2 3GX (map here)

We need to resist the Tories’ plans to trash the NHS immediately, not wait for the general election to solve things. But part of our resistance must be pressure on the Labour Party for a clear commitment to repeal the Health and Social Care Bill and rebuild our health service.

The labour movement and campaigning organisations are organising a lobby of Labour Party conference to help build that pressure. The date is Sunday 30 September at 2.30pm and the demands of the lobby are:

• A clear pledge to repeal the Tories’ NHS Act
• Business out of the NHS: reverse privatisation and outsourcing at every level
• End PFI and liberate the NHS from extortionate PFI charges
• Provision for need, not overgrown bureaucracy: abolish the internal market
• Decent wages, conditions and pensions for NHS workers
• Tax the rich to rebuild the NHS and fund quality provision for all

What You Can Do

Send the Resolution to Labour Party Conference

We are seeking to get a ‘contemporary resolution’ onto the agenda of the conference. Labour Party activists have drafted a resolution – you can find it [here].

Resolutions can be submitted by (local) Constituency Labour Parties (CLPs), and by (national) affiliated unions and ‘socialist societies’. The deadline for submission is 21 September.

Meeting After the Lobby

After the lobby, activists will be taking part in the Labour Party conference fringe meeting organised by the Labour Representation Committee – ‘Defeating the Tories – on the streets, in the workplace and at the ballot box’. Jill Mountford of the NHS Liaison Committee will be speaking alongside:

Christine Blower (NUT), Katy Clark MP, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Sally Hunt (UCU), Owen Jones, Alice Mahon, John McDonnell MP and Mark Serwotka (PCS).
